What each booking platform really costs

What each platform charges, who pays it, and what that comes to on the same booking. Your own year depends on your numbers, so run them in the calculator above.

FareHarbor fees

FareHarbor has no monthly subscription. It earns on each booking instead: a booking fee reported at up to 6% on direct bookings, which you can absorb or add to your traveler's checkout, and a 2% API fee on every booking that arrives from an OTA such as Viator or GetYourGuide. Card processing is reported at 1.9% + $0.30 in the US. FareHarbor publishes none of these rates, so check them against your own statements.

On a $250 direct booking: FareHarbor takes $15.00 in fees plus $5.05 in card processing, $20.05 in all. On Samba it’s $5.00 plus $7.55, $12.55.

Peek Pro pricing

Peek doesn't publish its pricing. Industry reports put its booking fee at up to 6% on direct bookings, usually charged to the traveler at checkout, and no fee on bookings from OTAs. Its card processing rate isn't published either, so the calculator uses Stripe's standard rate for it, the same rate Samba users pay through their own Stripe account.

On a $250 direct booking: Peek Pro takes $15.00 in fees plus $7.55 in card processing, $22.55 in all. On Samba it’s $5.00 plus $7.55, $12.55.

WeTravel pricing

WeTravel's Basic plan is free and Pro costs $79 a month. Card processing is published: 2.9% on US cards and 1.5% on local cards in EUR or GBP, more on Amex and foreign cards, with bank transfers free. On top of that comes a WeTravel fee on every transaction, with a $1.50 minimum and no published rate; industry reports put it at 1%. Both can be passed to travelers, who then see them at checkout as a service fee, charged on every instalment. What the price leaves out is the tools WeTravel doesn't have: no connection to Viator or GetYourGuide, so selling there means a separate channel manager, no POS for walk-ups and no digital waivers. Buying them separately typically comes to around 2% of your bookings.

On a $250 direct booking: WeTravel takes $2.50 in fees plus $7.25 in card processing, $9.75 in all. On Samba it’s $5.00 plus $7.55, $12.55.

Checkfront pricing

Checkfront charges a monthly subscription that varies by region and isn't published, plus 3% on every online booking, which you can absorb or pass on. It charges nothing on offline bookings or on bookings from OTAs. Its card processing rate isn't published, so the calculator uses Stripe's standard rate for it.

Rezdy pricing

Rezdy has three plans at $49, $99 and $249 a month. Every plan charges 3% on online bookings, which you can absorb or pass on, and a flat fee on each booking from an agent or OTA: $1, $0.85 or $0.70 depending on the plan. Its card processing rate isn't published, so the calculator uses Stripe's standard rate for it.

How we count: bookings a year are bookings per month times the months you operate, with OTA bookings split evenly across the OTAs you pick. Booking fees count even when the traveler pays them. Card processing applies to direct bookings only; where a tool doesn’t publish its rate we use Stripe’s standard rate, same as Samba. For WeTravel, we add 2% of your bookings for the tools it leaves out: a channel manager, a POS and a waiver tool. Samba is compared at its flat 2%, leaving out the first $10,000 free.

Booking fee questions

What counts as a booking fee here?

Anything your booking software charges per booking on top of its subscription, whatever it calls it: a booking fee, a service fee, an API or agent fee. The calculator splits it into a fee on direct bookings and a fee on OTA bookings, and you can overwrite both with the numbers on your own invoice.

Why count fees my travelers pay?

Because who pays is a setting, not a saving. A booking fee charged to your traveler still comes out of the same booking: it raises the price they see at checkout, next to an OTA listing that may not add one. Samba's 2% can be absorbed or passed on to your guests too, so the fair comparison is the total cost of each booking.

What are the hidden fees and missing tools for WeTravel?

WeTravel doesn't connect to OTAs, has no POS and no digital waivers, so operators buy those separately: a channel manager to sell on Viator or GetYourGuide, a POS for walk-ups, a waiver tool. The calculator adds 2% of your bookings for them when you pick WeTravel, and you can enter what yours cost. Samba includes OTA channel sync and waivers in its 2%.

Does Samba charge on OTA bookings?

Yes, the same 2% as a direct booking. Samba syncs availability, passengers and the booking record from the channel, so the calculator includes it.

Where do the fee figures come from?

Each vendor's own pricing page where one exists, checked on the date shown in the table. Where a vendor doesn't publish its fees, the figure is labelled as reported, with the source, and you can overwrite it with the numbers on your own invoice.

My software isn't listed. Can I still use it?

Pick Other. It starts at 4% on direct bookings and 2% on OTA bookings; overwrite those and the monthly subscription with the numbers on your own invoice. Card processing is then assumed at Stripe's standard rate for your currency.
